Entry Protocols in North Sikkim
For Indian Tourists
Indians do not have restrictions on travelling to Sikkim. You can easily access areas like Gangtok, Rumtek, Yuksom, and Phodong without any permits. However, ask the tour operators to arrange permits if you’re travelling to Lacung, Lachen, Yumthang, Chopta, and especially Gurudongmar Lake.
For Foreign Tourists
Foreign tourists have different rules. They need prior permission for 15 days and later extend it to 30 if required. They need to contact the Indian embassy for the same. Moreover, solo travel for foreign tourists is not allowed in Sikkim. They need to travel in a group of two or more people.
Restricted and Protected Area Permit
To maintain hassle-free travel, as per the regulations of the Ministry of Home Affairs, no tourist is allowed to reenter within the next 3 months of departure from Sikkim.
